Maintaining Your Harley Golf Cart Tires

Your Harley golf cart can provide you years of trouble free riding on the golf course with just a little tire maintenance.

1. Proper Tire Inflation
Standard gold car tires should have 20 to 22 PSI. The front and rear should have the same. If you are going to be using your cart off road then reduce the PSI just a bit for better traction.

Use the tire pressure that the manufacturer's specs call for. The higher the tire pressure the stiffer the ride and the easier the cart moves but it can cause premature wear in the center of the tire.

Too much air reduces traction as there is insufficient contact on the middle of the tire. Lower air pressure gives a smoother ride and provides more traction but too low and you'll have premature wear on the exterior of the tire.

2. Negative Offset Wheels
If you want to add wider off road tires the negative offset wheels. Negative offset wheels have a mounting flange that is off center and about 6" from the outside wheel and 4" from the inside. This causes the tire to be pushed away from the car which ensures no rubbing on the fender wells from the wider tires.

3. Larger Golf Cart Tires
If you increase the size of your tires from the 18.5" to a larger size you get a better top end speed but you do give up some pulling power. So depending on the terrain you'll be using your cart or what you'll be using it will determine the size of tires you will want to put on your golf cart.

4. Mounting
You need to make sure your tires are properly mounted and make sure that the tread is going forward. Proper mounting provides good traction and will channel the mud towards the outside of the tire keeping the tread clear. Your local dealer can quickly make sure your tires are correctly mounted to provide maximum wear for your.

5. Tubeless and Tread Patterns
Golf cart tires are available in a variety of tread patterns and sizes. Most modern carts use tubeless tires which are a lot less hassle then the old style tube tire.

The common tread pattern is a saw tooth and straight rib. Some tires can be directional tread. Sand tires have paddles and knobs for maximum traction.
